In addition to the regular-paper track, IEEE CEC 2027 invites short papers presenting concise, original, and self-contained contributions within the broad scope of evolutionary computation.

Short papers provide a venue for focused contributions that are significant and technically sound but can be communicated effectively in a shorter format. They are archival publications and should not be treated merely as abstracts or as incomplete versions of regular papers.

Suitable submissions may include:

  • focused methodological, theoretical, empirical, or application-oriented contributions;

  • technically sound preliminary or proof-of-concept studies supported by a clearly defined methodology and evidence proportionate to the claims;

  • replication, benchmarking, negative-result, or resource papers that provide substantive insight to the evolutionary computation community; and

  • evidence-based position or vision papers that advance an original, technically grounded argument and articulate concrete implications or a research agenda for evolutionary computation.

Submission Requirements

Short papers must:

  • be no more than four pages, including figures, tables, appendices, and references;

  • use the official IEEE conference proceedings template;

  • present original work that has not been previously published and is not under review or submitted for publication elsewhere;

  • comply with the same authorship, research-integrity, anonymisation, conflict-of-interest, and dual-submission policies as regular papers; and

  • be submitted through the IEEE CEC 2027 EDAS system under the Short Papers track.

No additional or overlength pages will be permitted.

Review and Selection

Short papers will undergo rigorous peer review and will be evaluated according to criteria appropriate to the four-page format. Reviewers will consider:

Originality and relevance

to IEEE CEC 2027

Technical soundness

Significance and potential value

to the community

Clarity and quality of presentation

Whether the evidence and analysis adequately support the claims made.

The shorter format permits a more focused or preliminary contribution, but it does not reduce the requirements for originality, methodological clarity, technical validity, or responsible scholarship.

Presentation and Publication

Accepted short papers will be presented at IEEE CEC 2027 in dedicated short-paper sessions. The presentation format—oral, poster, or spotlight presentation followed by a poster—will be specified in the acceptance notification.

Accepted and presented short papers will be published separately from the main conference proceedings in the IEEE CEC 2027 Companion Proceedings and submitted for inclusion in IEEE Xplore, subject to meeting IEEE Xplore’s scope and quality requirements.

For a short paper to be eligible for publication, the authors must:

  • submit the final camera-ready paper by the specified deadline;

  • complete the required IEEE copyright and publication documentation;

  • ensure that at least one author registers at the applicable author registration rate; and

  • present the paper at the congress.
